It’s Party Time!

Yeah it’s been a while since we’ve blogged.  Our apologies.  It’s tax season and we’re parents in addition to several businesses being operated under Chic Baby!  We’re ending classes, starting classes, and expanding the business.  Sounds fun, doesn’t it?

Interested in Baby Signs®?

We have lots of classes starting in March and April!  We’re so excited to be partnering with Herself Moms and will be teaching classes at the Midtown and Roseville location!  Please check what classes we have starting by checking our Schedule & Registration page!

Interested in Parties?

You’re in luck!  We are expanding by adding Passion Parties!  Perhaps you’ve heard of Passion Parties, or perhaps you haven’t.  Regardless, I’m going to tell you about what they really are and why I decided to add this wonderful business to Chic Baby because I guarantee there are some of you out there who were just like me.  This is why:

I’m sure I’m not the only one who heard the term “Passion Parties” and ran for the hills.  I pictured, as I’m sure many of you also do, a wild party with sex toys flying through the air.  Now I’m not denying that these types of Passion Parties are out there, but honestly they were not for me.  So I just looked the other way whenever I heard “Passion Parties.”  That was until a friend, former client, shared she was a Passion Consultant and so in an effort to support her business, I attended a few of her parties and was intrigued.

These Passion Parties were NOT what I expected at all!  Sure there were sex toys, but what I didn’t expect was the educational pieces, the empowerment and confidence I felt after, the non-sexual products, and how comfortable I was!  (The wine probably helped, but moving on!)

Passion Parties

I quickly realized that Passion Parties isn’t all about the sex toys. While sensuality is a very important part of Passion Parties, educating and empowering women from the bedroom to the bank is the most important piece! Passion Parties gives you the confidence to talk about sex, builds your self esteem to take back what’s yours in your relationship because you deserve it! You deserve to be pampered and you deserve to have a great time! My goal is to EMPOWER you to make the educated choices and enhance your relationship in and out of the bedroom. When you feel good about yourself, you feel more confident about yourself and your sexuality, and that affects every aspect of your life!

Become a hostess and book a party with me for FREE! All you have to do is provide some light refreshments (like wine) and the party place.  All my hostesses get free products, discounts, and special rewards.  Or maybe you want to help women feel pampered and empowered, too?  Then become a Passion Consultant and join my team! The rewards are endless! Contact me for more details!

Visit my website for more information!  You can book a party, learn more, or shop confidentially anytime!

2012 Holiday Shopping Mixer

While we are business owners, we are first and foremost moms.  We have cultivated friendships with other moms in Sacramento, many of us either working out of the home or working from home.  We have found a way to help support our families financially while being there for our children.

So working with some other work at home moms in Sacramento, we founded the Sacramento WAHM Consultant Network to provide support and networking opportunities to help grow our businesses.  After what seems like a whirlwind month of November, we put together a 2012 Holiday Shopping Mixer!

Sacramento WAHM Presents:

We are very excited as this is a great way to not only get some holiday shopping done without the mall, but also support local Sacramento WAHMs! Please click on the image to the left to link to the flyer for more information.

So get some stress-free shopping done and have the opportunity to get some GREAT raffle prizes just by showing up!  Besides signing up or purchasing a gift certificate for some Baby Signs® classes, book a Passion Party, pamper yourself with some Arbonne products, cutesy up your children with handmade bows and tutus, pick up some handmade jewelry, and more!  We have great products available for shopping, so bring your families and finish up the holiday season with great gifts!

Scrapbooking Made Easy

If you’re anything like me, then you probably have a Love-Hate relationship with scrapbooking.  I LOVE that I can be creative and catalog memories.  During the pregnancy with my son four years ago, I started a scrapbook and spent hours arranging photos and backgrounds with cute stickers.  However, that was short lived.  I completed maybe three pages… and the rest is history.

I got busy with, well, life!  Even though I stayed home with my son until he was almost a year, I have no idea where the time went.  The scrapbook has looked the same for the past three years and to my disappointment, I haven’t had a chance to work on it.  And now that my daughter is a couple months old, I’m organizing photos and making a genuine effort to get at least one “baby” scrapbook done for each child.  I can Shutterfly my heart’s desire, but I still want to get at least one scrapbook done before they graduate from high school!

Close to My Heart

Then I had the opportunity to meet Emily Wilke through a new mom’s support group and discovered that she holds “crop nights,” which are essentially a “girl’s night out” where you get to work on your scrapbooking skills.  SCORE!  So when I found out I could host a crop night, I quickly volunteered so I could socialize AND be productive scrapbooking.

So what is Close to My Heart?  Well in my amateur opinion, it’s a way to make scrapbooking ridiculously easy with great products that are practical so you can easily utilize your creative side.  And Close to My Heart says: “We show you how to celebrate relationships through discovering your creativity, to preserve and share the moments that matter most.”  They say it better :)

Four reasons we love it:

  1. Close to My Heartmakes scrapbooking realistic and beautiful with less work,
  2. We are able to support other local and mom-based businesses,
  3. We have fun,
  4. And we get to make new friends!

So Join us!

So are you interested in Close to My Heart and hosting a party?  Well, Emily’s next Crop Night that will be held on September 23rd at 3:00pm in Natomas.  This is an Afternoon Tea themed event that has limited space, so RSVP is required. We do ask that you leave your children at home* as there will be scrapbooking materials strewn about.  If you would like to attend, go ahead and use our Contact Form for more information.  Otherwise, contact Emily directly for hosting your own crop night!

*Young babies that are not mobile are welcome.

[P2P] Welcome New Baby!

Two weeks ago, our family went from three to four.

After a solid week of prodromal labor (on top of Braxton Hicks contractions), I was melodramatic and thought I’d never go into labor!  The day before my daughter was born after hours of (increasing) regular contractions, I finally called the Advice Nurse and was told that I must be in “false labor” because I could talk through the contractions.  So I hung up the phone and started crying.

Well it was not false labor.  When the bloody show changed and I started bleeding, we called L&D again and grudgingly made our way to the hospital.  And just for the record, even at that point, I could talk through contractions just fine.

My daughter (the newest addition to the family) was born after about four hours of active labor and three minutes of pushing in an un-medicated birth.  It was fast, intense, emotional, yet very rewarding! Luckily I had both my wonderful husband and sister for support and I knew my son was in great hands at home with his grandparents visiting in town for this occasion.

Now that I have the opportunity to hold my daughter, I think about all the deliberation and anxiety I had when deciding to have another child.  I worried about how my family would be, I worried about my time and business, I worried about finances, I worried about lots of other things, but most importantly I worried about how my son would cope.

Pregnancy to Parenting

I knew we’d face some kind of challenges with the huge life change, but I expected bedwetting or resentment towards the new baby.  Instead, we’re facing meltdowns, especially around nap-time.  While I know that part of these storms are age related, the other part is the change.  We’re working through it – some days better than others.  I’m putting forth my best efforts to stay calm amidst sleep deprivation by remembering to validate my three year old’s feelings.  It’s okay for him to feel angry and this is a great opportunity to teach him that he can acknowledge those feelings and give him tools to handle the intense feelings.

But on the bright side, I’m now second to the baby.  My son rushes into our room in the morning to snuggle with his new sister instead of me.  He talks about her all the time at school and can’t wait to show her off.  It’s darling and nothing feels better than to see your children just love each other.  We’re even at the point where we have to kindly ask big brother to give baby sister some space!  But it won’t be long before she can tell him herself.

Time goes so quickly.  In fact, we’re now in the middle of the two-week growth spurt and it feels like I had her just yesterday.  So despite the sleep deprivation, exhaustion, and sore nipples that accompanies growth spurts, I’m trying to remember these times because it will be the last.  I have my son and daughter and I feel like our family is now complete.  And that’s a great feeling!

Our Father’s Day Inspires Chic Changes!

We hope you had a great weekend in the triple digit heat!  Collectively, we spent Father’s Day biking, swimming, playing at Funderland (dads ride free on Father’s Day!), playing, and preparing for one special daddy’s newest reason to celebrate Father’s Day!  Yes, our baby girl is almost here!  Fatherhood is a life changing experience for most men as they learn how to be a parent.

In my opinion, as challenging as being a parent can be, being a parent is the most rewarding job.  Not only do you get to see changes in your child, but you also get to see changes in yourself and your partner!  Culturally, we have seen such a shift in a father’s involvement over the years as the fatherhood role has changed.  We are seeing more dads at the park playing with their children, more dads doing grocery shopping with the kids (sans mom!), more dads wearing their babies, and more dads staying home.

Personally, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that my husband takes the lead on bath and bedtime routines (especially with baby #2 on the way).  At first I wasn’t proud of this as it started when I was taking evening classes twice a week, but now I couldn’t be happier.  Not only do I get a break, I also get to see the relationship between my son and his father flourish.  And you know what?  My husband loves spending time with his “best buddy.”  This says a lot and gives us even more of a reason to celebrate fathers!

So over this hot (106 degree) weekend, Elizabeth and I managed to discuss changes that we want to implement to not only encourage signing and communication, but also benefit you!  We LOVE having dads in our signing classes, so here are some changes that we hope will encourage their involvement.  Are you ready?

Change is good!  It really is :)

ONE: Effective immediately, we are dropping our prices for our series classes in Natomas (Sign, Say & Play® and MORE Sign, Say & Play®)!  So instead of paying $100.00 for each 6 weeks, we are now charging only $90.00 per series without the kit or $130.00 with the recommended kits ($50.00 value).  How exciting!  These new prices are already active on our PayPal drop-down menu for registration on the Schedule & Registration page.

TWO: We are also going to be hosting FREE events each month to the community to encourage signing and provide some free family time!  These events will be based around fun holidays.  For example, July we are holding a Teddy Bear Picnic with Beebo™ the Baby Signs® bear in honor of Teddy Bear Picnic Day.  RSVP today by using our Contact Form!  You can find these events on our calendar or Schedule & Registration page.

THREE: Our Natomas Baby Signs® and On the Grow™ classes will most likely not only be moving to earlier in the days, but also moving locations (not far, we promise!)  We will keep you posted when this takes effect.  In the future, we may be adding Monday & Friday classes as well if there is sufficient interest!  Let us know if this interests you!

FOUR: We are starting classes in Elk Grove starting September 13th, 2012.  This Sign, Say & Play® series must be registered through CSD and details will be available on our Schedule & Registration page in July.  So if you live in Elk Grove, then join us for this class that will take place at Elk Grove Town Hall.

See!  We told you change is good!

But don’t forget that we still have On the Grow™ classes scheduled, such as Manners, Mealtimes & More! for toddlers to take place this weekend.  Our next series classes will be starting in August 2012*, just in time for the new school year as summer vacation comes to an end.  We can’t wait to have you in classes! Feel free to contact us if you have any questions!

*Please take note that the time and location for our August series classes may change depending on facility availability.  They will remain on Saturdays, but may jump up to 9:00am instead of 12:00pm!
